Boats are a wonderful subject. Its impossible to ignore them if you live in Cornwall! This design is another memory from childhood that has persisted to this day. I used to love hearing the gentle tones of the Shipping Forecast coming through the radio on dark wintery mornings. The rhythm and repetition of the words was like poetry and gave me a sense of comfort and security. Clearly other people share my affection for this icon of British radio as I have made several popular versions of this automata. Turn the handle and the boat gently bobs over the wave.
